![]() lighter shades can produce a beautiful aged effect when painted on darker woods and distressed, whilst darker colours create drama when teamed with metallics. ![]() When choosing colours, don’t just think of room décor, consider the style and colour of the piece you’re painting too – e.g. Please note: the more curing time you leave before painting over, the more effective BOSS is. If you realise you have a bleed-through problem during the painting process, BOSS can also be used between paint layers. If you believe your piece will be prone to bleed-through, use BOSS. Directions for using BOSS can be found on the product page or the pot.īOSS also prevents bleed-through, a common problem in furniture painting where tannins/stains/resins can come through the paint and discolour the finish (especially problematic when working with light colours). If your project has staining or the wood is emitting odours (wood absorbs odours such as nicotine and can smell ‘musty’ over time, particularly in cupboards and drawers that are not aired), use BOSS Primer (comes in Clear or White, depending on your project plan). Please note that Slick Stick is not required on all projects – it is a problem solver designed for use on hard to paint, shiny surfaces. If you’re painting onto a high gloss, shiny or slick surface, a coat of Slick Stick prior to painting will ensure a good bond between your paint and your furniture piece and ensure a longer lasting finish. You can choose to work with the natural dinks, especially if you intend to age and distress your piece, or use Dixie Mud to fill any imperfections. If you’re looking for a totally smooth finish, you’ll need to fill in any dents or damaged areas at the prep stage. Once cleaned, scuff sand your project and then clean off debris and any residual cleaning solution and allow it to thoroughly dry before painting with Dixie Belle Paint. ![]() Solvents such as mineral spirits or wax remover will help dissolve the wax so it can be cleaned off (ensure you are in a well ventilated area). If the surface has been waxed this should be removed prior to painting so that your finish will stand the test of time and not chip or peel. Remove any dust/debris and clean surfaces with a good degreaser, White Lightning or TSP Degreaser Cleaner are both very effective, but remember to clean off the residue before you begin painting.
